Steve Badalich grew up in South St. Paul where he was a very good athlete in several sports. In 1945, Badalich and his good friend Lefty Smith got his high school to start a hockey team. In 1947, Badalich in goal, led South St. Paul to the state consolation championship.
After high school, Badalich played professional baseball for a few years before moving to Madison where he got his three sons involved in hockey. He promoted hockey at all levels and founded the Stoughton youth hockey association. In 1974, he founded the Madison Capitols Junior program, which played in the United States Hockey League. His home became the “Boardmoor Hotel of Madison,” housing many of the Capitol players. He helped many players fulfill their junior, college, and professional dreams. |
