Bob Bentley started playing for the Fond du Lac Bears while still in high school. He was also a standout high school football player. He began his career in 1950 and played goal for 15 seasons. In the 1960s, he and fellow Bears teammate Bob Rompre organized the youth hockey program in neighboring Waupun.
