Howie Farrey was a standout defenseman for the Fond du Lac Bears in a 14-year career during the 1930s and 40s. He coached the team to a 9-4-1 record in 1949. When needed, he also donned the pads and played goal for the team. He was instrumental in fundraising for the artificial ice plant in the 1970s and he was the first to skate on that ice surface
