Mark Greenhalgh, or “Greenie” as he is widely known throughout the Wisconsin Hockey Family, was born and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin where he played for the newly organized Janesville Youth Hockey program.  He was a three-sport athlete (football, baseball, hockey) at Janesville Parker High School.

After high school, Greenhalgh registered at UW-Madison and was accidentally recruited as a goaltender for the Badger men’s hockey team by fellow student Mike Eaves and went on to play for the legendary “Badger Bob Johnson”.  After a short stay in Madison, Greenhalgh began his life-long coaching career as the coach for the Burbank Bantams in California.  He then returned to Wisconsin and finished his Bachelor of Science Degree at UW-Madison while serving a seven-year stint as an Assistant Coach for the UW-Whitewater Club Hockey Club team.  Greenhalgh went on to receive a master’s degree in occupational safety and health technology at UW-Whitewater.

Greenhalgh’s forte has been and remains as a coach, serving as an assistant under Vic Levine at Madison Memorial High School for 13 years.  He was a coach for ten years with Team Wisconsin and seven years as a volunteer with the Wisconsin Senior Class Tournament.  He spent 18 years as the Assistant Volunteer Coach for goaltenders on Mark Johnson’s Badger Women’s Hockey Team where he contributed to the development of two Patti Kazmaier Award winners (Jesse Vetter and Anne-Renee Desbiens) and four Olympians (Vetter, Desbiens, Alex Rigsby Cavallani and Kristen Campbell).  Greenhalgh was a member of Mark Johnson’s Badger coaching staff on the 2025 NCAA National Championship team.

Greenhalgh has been a “hockey guy” all his life and he still plays as a goaltender in the Monday Night Old Timers League at Hartmeyer Arena in Madison.  But his contributions to the sport come from coaching, advising and sharing his hockey knowledge at all levels and across the width and breadth of the State.  Greenhalgh was inducted into the Janesville Hall of Fame in 2005.  He is currently the Wisconsin Region Safty Manager for Kraemer North America.  He and his wife Amy reside in Madison and have three adult children, Drew, Ella and Maria.
