  • Fred Schrauth - 1996
Schrauth can truly be called one of the grand old men of Wisconsin hockey, having been association with the sport as a player coach and promoter for almost 60 years.   A founding father of hockey in Fond du Lac, Schrauth would be one of the forebears of the Fond du Lac Blue Line club.

A goaltender for Fond du Lac youth and senior teams in the 1930s and 1940s, Schrauth returned to goaltending duties with the Fond du Lac Bears after returning from service in World War II and was instrumental in reviving youth hockey in Fond du Lac.

Schrauth was player-coach for the Bears in the Wisconsin State League from 1949 through 1951.   He founded the Rock River League in 1952 and returned to coach the Bears in 1953, 1954 and 1956.  Schrauth served as an organizer and fund raiser for youth hockey from 1949 through 1952 and also coached the Junior Bears.

Moving into the Oshkosh and Appleton-Menasha area, Schrauth continued his coaching career and spent countless hours working as a goalie coach with many area youth teams.  Schrauth exerted a great deal of influence over more than one generation of youth hockey players through the countless goaltending clinics he directed.
